Frequently Asked Questions

Why get a massage? What are the benefits?

There are many benefits that can be gained from massage therapy as well as targeted benefits that can be achieved with a specific technique or modality. In general, massage therapy promotes relaxation and wellbeing. It reduces tension and anxiety; improves blood flow which in turn helps to deliver nutrients & oxygen to the cells; it stimulates the lymphatic system and the filtering of the body’s waste; it aids in the relief of muscle cramps and spasms; and can help with pain management.

Is there a situation when I should avoid getting a massage?

Always consult with your therapist to explain your current situation. Massage therapy is not advised for anyone who is extremely ill or who has a severe medical condition. You should not get a massage if you have a fever, or untreated infection. Ask your therapist to see if a session would be right for you.

What do I wear and do I have to be undressed?

Some level of disrobing is required. It will depend somewhat on the type of massage that is to be performed. The basic answer is that you should disrobe to the level that you are comfortable with. The therapist will go over this with you before the session and will not just assume a standard comfort level. A level of the trust and understanding will be built and not just taken for granted.

What is the first time/new client process?

The therapist will do an initial consult with the client. The client’s health history will be discussed as well as any existing conditions to determine the client’s current health status. A plan will be put in place that will identify the type of session and any regimen, and this will be based on the client’s goals and what they hope to achieve from the session.

What to expect: How is a typical massage session performed?

The approach is not to impose the therapist’s will upon the client, but to do what is most beneficial to each client. The therapist will enter each session with no preconceived notions. Every session is a fresh start and the therapist will listen to the client to understand where the session needs to be. Each session is a unique opportunity for change & stabilization.

Do you make house calls?

Therapy sessions are conducted on-site in the office. An off-site session is possible on a limited case by case basis. Ask the therapist to see if off-site accommodations are possible.
